Did you know that McHenry County had several safe houses and fierce abolitionists who risked their lives to help freedom seekers to achieve their quest for freedom via the Underground Railroad?
Come join us to hear true stories of the Underground Railroad from Gloria Van Hof and Pamela Althoff, two local historians who conducted the first Underground Railroad tour in McHenry County in 1993. Together, Gloria and Pam have led tours of local sites and presented lectures at numerous historical groups, schools and universities. Come and hear these heroic stories first hand from two experts on the Underground Railroad in Illinois and surrounding states.
It’s all happening at 6:00 pm on Monday February 19th, in the Luecht Auditorium at McHenry County College (park on the south side.)
Free and open to the public — but please register here so we’ll know you’re coming. Sponsored by McHenry County Juneteenth.
