The McHenry County chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) is proud to host their first local Black History Month Celebration. It’s from 5:30 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, February 21st, at the Cary Area Public Library, 1606 Three Oaks Road.
We will be spotlighting a few local Black owned businesses showcasing their goods and services to all attendees throughout the evening.
At 5:45 pm we will begin screening the film Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in America. It’s a thought provoking film that interweaves personal anecdotes, interviews, and shocking revelations. In the film lawyer Jeffery Robinson draws a stark timeline of anti-Black racism in the United States, from slavery to the modern myth of a post-racial America.
Note: There are some sensitive photos/content in this film which has been rated PG-13, Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13.
The celebration aims to educate and entertain attendees with the hope that we can have the necessary conversations, and put in the work together, to ensure a future in this country that is truly equal for all – A future that acknowledges and accepts Black history in this country as simply, American History.
Let’s come together this month to honor and celebrate the immeasurable contributions made by Black people in this country!
